Parents and Guardians

Welcome to the Class of 2013 Page

Hello, my name is Donna Ritter.  I am a Spanish teacher here at CHS and I am also the Senior Coordinator.

This page will be used to communicate information to you, along with the Comet's Tale.

If your student is planning to graduate this year, please take a moment and fill out the form below.  The information you submit will allow me to contact in the event of a problem or concern.

Senior Information Form

I can be reached at donnaritter@johnston.k12.nc.us

Senior Parents,

Please be thinking about your contribution to the Senior Picnic and Senior Breakfast.  These are both sponsored by the efforts of the parents and local businesses.  We will have a meeting after Spring Break in the school Media Center at 6:30 pm on Tuesday April 16th.  We will divide into two groups.  Please encourage your neighbors and friends to attend.  With a smaller Senior class, we will need as many volunteers as possible to make these events memorable for our Seniors!!!

  Graduation Announcements

Graduate Services will be here on May 1st to deliver cap and gowns.  This will take place during Power Block in the New Gym Lobby.  It is extremely helpful if your balance is paid in full before distribution.

****If you still need to order, you may do so online at www.hjgraduation.com

*****If you know your child will be out of school  on that day, please let me know (donnaritter@johnston.k12.nc.us)

so that I can make arrangements for your order.

 Ticket Information:

Also, Graduation Tickets will be distributed in late May.  Each graduate is given 4 blue tickets and 4 red tickets.  These are for the football field.  Green tickets (max. 10 per graduate) are for the bleachers.  In the event of rain, only the blue set can be used for the indoor ceremony in the new gym.  We have not been rained out since 1997.  Hopefully the weather will be great.

Graduation is scheduled for May 7th at 6:30 pm

Additional Graduation Details

Parents and graduates, the information below is based on decisions made in previous years.  If any changes are made between not and June they will be posted here.  I am just attempting to give you as much information as possible while you make plans with family and friends.

Your very excited senior should plan to arrive at the new gym between 5:00pm and  5:15pm on Friday evening. Encourage your graduate to car pool as parking is at a premium. Any student with cap and gown issues (after they have arrived to the new gym) should see Mrs. Ritter as she will have a repair kit of sorts.

The gates for guests will open at 5:30.  There is no reserved seating.

*Handicap Information:

Anyone needing handicap parking should arrive early (this is first come, first served) to the Hwy. 70 parking lot (where activity buses are parked and teachers normally park). All vechiles must have a state approved handicap sticker to be allowed into the parking lot. There will be an officer on duty at the entrance to the parking lot.  Entrance to the parking lot for handicap parking will be available until 6:00 pm. after 6 the parking lot will be open to all vechiles attending the event. Golf carts will be available to transport handicapped individuals to the field not only from the Hwy. 70 "official handicap parking lot", but the carts will also be available all around the ceremony area. If you park in the back area of the school, the ramp will be used to transport guests who have difficulties (breathing, walking, etc.) to the ceremony area.   Chairs on the field for the graduation ceremony may not be moved to accomodate a wheelchair, and wheelchairs may not block isles but may be placed at the end of a row.

Toddler / Infant Information:

Children under 2 that do not have a ticket must sit with an adult in the same seat.  If a child under 2 needs a seat, the child must have a field ticket (blue or red). The chairs have been rented to accomodate 8 tickets per graduate, so 8 adults and one toddler means 8 seats.  The toddler must sit with an adult otherwise some other guests will not have a seat.

Umbrellas:

Please remember that all umbrellas must be taken down once the ceremony begins.

Graduate dress code:

Please, please refer to the two pieces of paper included in the graduation ticket envelope when your receive it in late May.  Information concerning dress code is included along with specific ticket information.

Seniors and Parents,
Graduate Services will be here on Friday for their Senior Presentation during second block.  They will receive a packet of information concerning their senior order (cap and gown etc.) You will have approx. one week to review the information and select your items.  Please remember you can not use a gown from a previous year.
Graduate services will return on Dec. 6th to take the order and deposit money during Power Block.

Also, when seniors receive the packet of information they will also receive a document that parents will have to sign. This document will ask for the students legal name as it appears on their birth certificate.  We are asking parents to sign this as a confirmation because a new charge is being implemented for incorrect names on diplomas and the cost is substantial.
