Answers
1)  Q I can't log on to my computer. What do I do?
A
First of all, click cancel and try again just in case you entered your name or password incorrectly. If that does not work, SHUT DOWN your computer. Leave it off for about 30 seconds and turn it back on.

Check to make sure the patch cable is plugged in to the computer AND the wall. The patch cable is the cable that looks like a phone cable.

The next thing you should try is to click the ADVANCED tab to make sure the context says staff.riverwoode.es.jcs. If it does not, type that into the context and try again.

You should also try to log into one of the other computers in the room. This will tell us if the issue is in the system rather than only one computer.

If none of these suggestions work, check to see if anyone else on your hall is having issues then call Ms. Caulder at extension 129.
2)  Q I did not change my Novell password when prompted that I would only be allowed five (5) grace logins and now I can not log in to my computer.
A
Enter a call into IT Direct using another teachers computer.
3)  Q My computer will not turn on at all.
A
Check all of the connections to make sure one of the power cords did not come loose and the retry. You should also check to make sure your monitor did not get turned off by accident. If you still can't get the machine to come on, enter a call into IT Direct using a different computer. Make sure you include the model and serial number of the machine having issues.
4)  Q When I open Internet Explorer, I get the message "This page cannot be displayed."
A
First, try going to an external site such as www.wral.com. If you get the same message, then yes, the Internet is down. Check with another teacher on your hall to see if they are also having the same issue. If so, do nothing. Chances are that the Technology Department already knows about it and is working to resolve the issue.
5)  Q I am trying to save a document to my files or to Staff Share but it will not let me.
A
You need to save old files to your flash drive or burn them to a CD and delete them from the server. Each teacher is only allotted a certain amount of storage on the server. Picture files, pdf files, and multimedia files take up the most space so look at that type of document first when deciding what to move or delete.
6)  Q I am in Groupwise and it will not allow me to send an e-mail.
A
Look at your Mailbox Usage percentage. If you are over 100%, you will not be able to send an e-mail until you delete some old e-mails. Files with attachments take up a lot of space. You should save the attachments if needed and delete those emails. Make sure you go through your SENT files also. Once you have deleted some e-mails, go to your TRASH folder and DELETE THE TRASH. If you are using the web-based version of Groupwise, you will need to log out and log back in for the usage percentage to update. If you are using the preferred desktop version, the usage percentage will update automatically.
7)  Q I am trying to play a DVD in my computer, but it will not play.
A
Take the DVD out of the computer. Go to your ACCESSORIES folder and open WinDVD. Insert the DVD and see if it will play now. You will need to give it a minute or two to read the DVD. If that does not work, enter a TECH HELP REQUEST.
8)  Q I need help with my SchoolCenter webpage. Who should I contact?
A
First try using SchoolCenter Support by clicking on Help in the blue SchoolCenter bar. If you do not find your answers or would like help and suggestions from Ms. Caulder, enter a request in IT Direct.
9)  Q I am trying to play a video on the Internet, but it will not play.
A
Enter a call into IT Direct.
10)  Q I am trying to burn a CD, but when I open Record Now, I get a message that all the drives are disabled. What should I do?
A
This is the message that you will get the first time the program is opened on your machine. Restart your computer and the program will work fine.
11)  Q I like to use the ComicSans font, but it doesn't show up on my computer anymore. What is wrong?
A
The font is probably corrupted. Enter a call into IT Direct and Ms. Caulder will correct the issue for you. Remember to include the model and serial number of the machine having issues.
12)  Q I am trying to use the data projector with a laptop, but the image on the wall says "No Signal". What is wrong?
A
First check to make sure you connected the laptop to the computer. Then hold down the Fn key and hit the F8 key. Wait a few seconds and the computer screen image should appear on the wall. If it happens to disappear on the laptop, repeat the Fn-F8 process and you should see the image on both the wall and the laptop.
13)  Q I put new ink cartridges in my printer, but it still won't print. What is wrong?
A
Check to make sure you removed the tape strip tabs from the ink cartridges before inserting the cartridges into the printer. You could also try shaking the cartridges just a little. If this doesn't work, enter a call into IT Direct.
14)  Q I inserted my flash drive but my computer doesn't recognize it. (I can't see it to open it.)
A
Enter a call into IT Direct.
15)  Q The clock on my television is offline and the top of the digital reading is cut off.
A
Enter a call into IT Direct.
16)  Q I turned on my machine, but it stopped and is showing the following message: "Non-system disk error"
A
Check to see if you have a floppy disk in the drive. If so, eject it and hit any key on the keyboard to resume start up.
