Atencion: Padres de estudiantes entrando al grado sexto 

El 1ero de Enero de 2008 entro en vigor una ley de Carolina del Norte, que ahora requiere la vacuna de refuerzo Tdap, para entrar al grado sexto. 

¿Por que se necesita la vacuna Tdap? Para proteger contra pertussis (tos ferina), tetanos, y difteria.  La proteccion a lo largodel tiempo, disminuye asi que se necesita un refuerzo, para estar completamente protegido. 

¿Y que hay si mi hijo ah tenido un refuerzo de Td(tetanos/difteria)?  Si, ah pasado mas de 5 años desde que su hijo ah recibido una vacuna de tetano(Dtap, DTP, o Td), necesitaran el refuerzo Tdap, casi todos los niños entrantes al grado sexto necesitaran el refuerzo Tdap, sin embargo, si ah sido menos de 5 años desde que su hijo ah recibido una vacuna que contiene tetanos, sera aplazado hasta que hayan pasado 5 años desde la ultima dosis del tetano(DTP, Dtap, DT o TD). 

¿Qué necesito hacer?

• Hable con el Doctor de su hijo, para ver si su hijo necesita el refuerzo Tdap.
• Asegureze de que su hijo reciba el refuezo Tdap antes de que comienze la escuela.
• Consiga una copiadelexpediente de vacunas para llevar ala escuela.
• Mientras este en la oficinadelDoctor asegureze que su hijo este al dia con sus vacunas y sus chequeos anuales. 

¿Dónde puede mi hijo recibir la vacuna Tdap?

• Con el Doctor de su hijo o proveedor de cuidado de salud.
• Si, su hijo no tiene un proveedor de cuidado de salud contacte, el Departamento de Salud Del Condado Johnston (989-5222 o 989-5272) contacte a Debbie Casey, RN Coordinadora de vacunas de niños por preguntas (989-5200).
• Registracion es necesaria para asegurar disponibilidad de vacunas, para evitar tiempo de espera, y para checar elegibilidad.
• La fecha y horario de la Clinica de Tdap en el Departamento de Salud del Condado Johnston son :

Attention: Parents of Rising 6th Graders 

Effective January 1, 2008, North Carolina Law now requires a Tdap booster for entry into 6^th grade. 

Why is Tdap needed?  To protect against pertussis (whooping cough), tetanus and diphtheria.  Over time, protection wears off so a booster is needed to stay fully protected. 

What if my child already had a Td (tetanus/diphtheria) booster?  If it has been more than 5 years since your child received a tetanus shot (DTaP, DTP or Td), they will need the Tdap booster. Almost all rising 6^th graders will need to get the Tdap booster. However, if it had been less than 5 years since your child has received a tetanus containing vaccine, they will be deferred until 5 years has passed from last dose of tetanus (DTP, DTaP DT or TD). 

What do I need to do?

· Talk to your child's doctor to find out if Tdap booster is needed.

· Make sure your child gets Tdap booster before school starts.

· Get a copy of your child's shot record to take to school.

· While at the doctor, check to make sure your child is up to date with other vaccines and their yearly check up. 

Where can my child get a Tdap?

• Your child's doctor or health care provider.
• If your child does not have a health care provider, contact Johnston County Health Department (989-5222 or 989-5272).  Contact Debbie Casey, RN Child immunization Coordinator for questions (989-5200).
• Registration is necessary to ensure vaccine is available, to avoid wait time and to check eligibility.
