Johnston County Department of Social Services is calling out to all of Johnston County's public schools to participate in the Child Abuse Prevention Awareness Month School Challenge.

How can your school join in on the fun?  Think of all the creative ways you can show your students, faculty, parents and visitors how your school supports the prevention of child abuse.

Gather together blue ribbons, bows, paper and clothes. Make it an activity for the whole school, or create your own blue challenge between classrooms. Proclaim your own special day for everyone to wear blue or create a human blue ribbon. Have your students make their own blue signs that can be displayed around your campus; anything you can do to bring attention to your school to make people ask what the blue is about. The blue sky is the limit for what you can do to show your support for this cause.

For the schools that participate, DSS will be rewarding a winner. If your school would like to participate in the challenge, please email Robert Tarpey at  In the email, please list your school name, contact person for the challenge and their phone number and email address.

Members of the Child Abuse Prevention team will go around to all participating schools and judge the decorations on creativity, style and effort. Thanks in advance for being a part of the community that supports the prevention of child abuse.
