Classified Staff

Classified staff have a significant and direct effect on the success of our students. Whether it be teacher assistants, custodians, office support, transportation, facility services, or child nutrition, the classified staff of Johnston County Schools help assure that our students and staff are supported in every way.

All employees must have earned a high school diploma or GED from institutions that are regionally or nationally accredited. In addition, school-based classified staff are held to Johnston County Board of Education Policy 5420, Duty to Drive a School Bus. This means that in addition to their other duties, they must be willing to drive a school bus when called upon to do so. Therefore, in order to be considered for employment in any role which requires driving a school bus, candidates must meet DMV standards for obtaining a Commercial Driver's License with school bus certification. Such employees are also subject to random drug and alcohol testing, as required by the Federal government. Exemptions to Policy 5420 may apply.

ATTENTION State of NC Retirees! If you accept a position in which you work more than 30 hours/week OR are a variable hour employee (such as a substitute teacher) and average working more than 30 hours/week, you are at risk of losing your retiree health insurance plan. You would be offered a plan with fewer benefits (such as a $5,000 deductible) than the plan you currently have. Please plan carefully so that you are not placed in this situation.

The Johnston County Public School system does not discriminate against any person on the basis of race, gender, color, religion, national origin, citizenship status, age, or handicap in any of its educational or employment programs or activities .
